Gillian's Bio

Gillian G. Gaar

Howdy! Finally here, and glad to be back! The very first SIFF I attended I was so broke I could only afford to go to the free films that were offered. When I was a little more flush, I sprang for a Secret Fest pass — a mere $10! Since then, as a working journo I've covered SIFF for a couple small local publications, and some bigger ones, namely The Rocket and The Stranger. But I really welcome the opportunity to use this on-going format, and expect to post about every day, esp once SIFF gets rolling! Right now I'm doing a fair amount of freelancing besides Tablet (Goldmine, Mojo, Record Collector), but can always use more... I'm also helping Krist Novoselic edit a book on electoral reform that'll be out later this year, it's a pretty interesting subject to work on. I might as well plug my own book here, She's A Rebel: The History of Women in Rock & Roll, republished in 2002 w/3 new chapters! And I also have a part-time day job w/one of the unions that Michael Moore hails as a totally groovy one...the SEIU, Service Employees International Union. Come up and say hi if you see me SIFF-ing, and remember I'm always up for the parties!
