Who am I? Why am I here?
David Jeffers
My formative years were spent in the drive-in theaters of
Northern California, and, after moving to Seattle in 1975,
the mezzanine of the Neptune Theatre became my livingroom.
Attending the first Silent Film Series at The Paramount in 1985 and
a screening of W.K. Everson's personal print of Sunrise at Pike Place
Cinema are the two events that opened my eyes to the significance of
that genre and led to a fascination that has lasted for
twenty-five years. I am not a critic, but have been called a careful and
perceptive viewer by those who are. I am distressed to admit I might
bear similarities to the guy in Cinemania who likes everything.
My preferences in film have been described as naive, sentimental,
eclectic, and pretentiously retarded. My voracious appetite to see new
and different films averages somewhere between ten and twenty a week.
My Mother constantly tells me, "All you do Is watch movies! Why don't
you get out and do some yard work!"
