Eight Below

David Jeffers

Yes, I would have rather seen Imagine Me and You, but that totem pole is reeeeally high! (Grumble, grumble)

Tuesday January 31, 7:00pm Oak Tree Cinemas
Opens February 17

Take a ruggedly handsome dogsled guide, a cute girl that also happens to be a bush pilot as his love interest, throw in a goofy sidekick with a fear of flying as comic relief, and a pack of clever, photogenic dogs. Set it in the picturesque Antarctic (sorry it’s filmed in Greenland), and you have the recipe for yet another well made and completely benign family picture from the folks at Disney. Eight Below offers adventure, love, humor and danger, complete with an uplifting message and positive life lessons. The story: An Antarctic sled guide is forced to leave his dog team behind when his research outpost is hastily evacuated with an injured scientist. A pending storm and the winter season prevents their return and the dogs are left to almost certain death. This story played well in the 1930’s, but kids are still kids, just don’t expect any big surprises.
