"Equal freedom is gonna destroy us!"

For anyone subjected to Conservative Evangelical Christian dogma and culture as a child, Heidi Ewing and Rachael Grady’s film Jesus Camp is the guaranteed recipe for a healthy case of post-traumatic stress. Filmed at the "Kids on Fire" camp, a Pentecostal retreat in Devil’s Lake South Dakota run by minister Becky Fischer, this documentary offers a look at the sick and twisted interpretation of Christianity these fundamentalists use to indoctrinate children with fear, hatred and intolerance. What takes place is no less heartbreaking than similar ‘programming’ western media has exposed in any Islamic Madrassa. Regardless how revealing or well intended Jesus Camp may be, in the end it is little more than a pointless exercise in self-flagellation by the open-minded, tolerant segment of society, who are clearly the audience for which this film is intended. The very nature of an oppressive, fanatical group automatically excludes the concept of reasonable consideration.
