The racecar crap is boring as hell, but Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou is charismatic as the son of a racer who discovers that his father’s world is where his own happiness and destiny lies. Anne Suzuki is also worth looking at as his girlfriend, whose promise to wear a skimpy swimming suit to the beach gets us through the film’s first dull quarter. The downbeat resolution of their romance is as uncharacteristic as the rest of the movie is predictable. The dated rock video sequences suggest what Prince might have done had he made the mistake of directing the Dukes of Hazzard remake.
